For several years work has been going on in the land of Jesus at the site
of the first house of the Carmelite Order.
Now we are readying the area of the historic ruins on Mount Carmel to receive pilgrims.
An ambitious project of preservation is
about to commence. The drawìng above shows parts of the area designated for the work.
Once prepared they will welcome you and future generations to experience the beauty, the
calm of this shrine so dear to all Carmelites.Taking
up the chalienge, the Carmelite friars in Israel have begun making the Wadi-ein-es-Siah a
center of prayerful welcome for the Carmelites, for Christian pilgrims and other peopie of
good wili. You can be part of the effort.
The church of Mary, 'Tady of the Piace," the adjacent structures of the monastery,
the caves and what remain of the celis in the Wadi are in great need of expert
refurbishing, or we wili lose these religious and archaeological traces of our history.
Eíght centuries of wear anci tear with harmful erosion have affected these monuments. We
must mount a project of reciamation and restoration that wili ensure long-term
conservation and suitabie protection. The covers for the church and other Carmelite
remains wili be designed to ensure easy viewing and adequate use.
Costs of necessary materials and professional guidance of renewal work are high. Hundreds
of thousands of dollars wili be spent to preserve and prepare the site to receive its
guests. Can you please help the work ahead? Send your contribution to:

| Albert, called by Gods
favor .. to his beloved sons in Christ, B. and the other hermits under obedience to him
who live on Mount Carmel near the spring... An oratory should be built as conveniently as
possible among the cells, where, if it can be done without difficulty, you are to gather
each morning to participate in the celebration of Mass. [The Rule of Carmel] |
| We are the descendants
of those who felt this call, of those holy hermits on Mount Carmel who in such great
solitude and contempt of the world sought this treasure, this precious pearl of
contemplation [Saint Teresa of Jesus] |
